Composite Fillings & Bonding

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a cosmetic technique wherein a type of dental material – in this case, composite resin – is shaped and molded on your teeth to give the appearance of straighter, whiter smile. It can be used as a cosmetic solution to chipped teeth, gapped teeth and staining in both teeth and fillings.

This technique is often used in combination or post-orthodontic treatment to improve the overall appearance of the smile.

At Halfway Dental Practice we aim to restore your teeth with the best and safest dental materials available.

The white (composite fillings) provide a healthier more natural looking alternative to silver fillings (amalgam fillings). Apart from the superior aesthetics the main advantage of the white filling over silver filling is that they much more conservative of your tooth structure. Because they are bonded to your tooth they do not require cutting undercuts or grooves into your healthy tooth structure which means that more of your natural tooth can be preserved.

There are many benefits of having white fillings over amalgam fillings;

  • They do not contain mercury

  • Come in a range of shades that can be matched to the colour of your own teeth

  • Help to strengthen remaining tooth structure

We would never recommend replacement of a filling if there is no clinical justification for it. If  you  require a  new filling or perhaps  you existent silver fillings are coming to the end of their lifespan  and require replacement we would recommend composite as better alternative to the outdated amalgam.
