Routine Exams

Our team understands that you might feel nervous or anxious about your first visit, especially if you haven’t seen a dentist for a while or had unpleasant dental experience in the past. For this reason, we’ll always try to do our best to make you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

If you have any special requests before your dental appointment please let us know and we will try to do or very best to accommodate your needs.

We appreciate not all patients have the same dental history and might have different reasons for visiting us. You might have specific concerns about your smile, or maybe you’re new to Guernsey and are looking to register with a dentist.

Whatever your goals, we keep them in mind so we can tailor our services to meet your needs.

What to Expect at Your Initial Consultation/Check –Up?

At your check- up appointment we will carry out not only a comprehensive exam of your teeth and gums under magnification (loupes) but we will also carry out:

  • Oral Cancer Screening: Annually we will examine your head, neck and mouth by looking and feeling for any lumps, swellings, abnormalities  or other signs of  mouth/oral cancer.

  • Gum Disease Screening

  • TMJ Screening: we’ll examine your TMJ (jaw joints). Jaw joint disorders are often caused by habits like tooth grinding or clenching and can lead to dental problems like fractured and worn teeth as well as muscle tension, facial pain and headaches. Our screening process includes a check of your joints.

  • Occlusal Examination: we’ll examine how your teeth bite together.

  • Radiographic Examination: we’ll take X-rays to check the bone support around your teeth as well as to look for signs of disease or decay not visible on the surface.

  • Tooth Wear Screening: we’ll examine your teeth for signs of tooth wear like acid erosion or habitual wear.

  • Clinical Intra Oral Photographs: we’ll want you to see what we see, hence by use of very small specialist intra oral digital cameras we have a closer look at the edges of fillings, crowns and areas of concern. We want you to see and understand the reasons for treatments we are recommending.

  • Medical History Screening

  • Social History Screening

  • Dental Hygiene Habits  and  Diet Review

  • If required we will take impressions of your teeth for study models to aid in treatment planning.

Once we have gathered and analysed the information, we will discuss with you all the findings and the treatment options. In most cases, there is more than one treatment option available.

We will work with you to help you make an informed choice which best fits with your dental, cosmetic and financial expectations.
